Former women's world number one Angelique Kerber says she may have thought twice about coming to Melbourne for the Australian Open had she known there was the possibility of spending two weeks in hard quarantine.
Kerber, the 23rd seed, said she might have changed her mind about competing at the Australian Open if she knew players would be forced into a hard lockdown if required.

So unfair. (ish) (not)

That it is dominated by a 43 year old bloke also says something about it as an athletic endeavour. Cam Smith is 38 yo I suppose and how old was Bobby Simpson when he was resurrected to plug a gap. But playmakers in the NRL like Jonathon Thurston get monstered so many times that they are done by their early thirties.

Not sure what is going on in the US ... its sports stars (how old is Serena Williams?) are about the age its political leaders should be and its political leaders must be running on muscle memory.

Morning All
Superbowl today
Fun Fact:

The average amount of actual action in an NFL game has been calculated to be between 11 and 15 minutes. The other three hours or so are covered by replays, advertisements, color commentary, advertisements, huddles for the next play, and then more advertisements

heard a good one today; if a prostitute is now called a sex worker, then a cricketer or footballer should be called a sports worker?

A pause to remember one of the greatest talents in the history of soccer, Diego Armando Maradona, who has just died at 60 of a heart attack.

Good to see Paul Gallen receive yet another most valuable contributor award for Qld. Good old Gal must be getting up near Wally Lewis in terms of winning games for Qld ... what a goose ... his fifth tackle settlers were bad but his call this year, before the first kick-off of the series, that this team is the worst in origin history takes the cake.

J, I didn't get to see any of the game live but from what I've read and seen on the highlights it was more about passion and tension than skill. But a win is a win.

Australia and New Zealand are hosting the FIFA 2023 Women's World Cup. Here's how the tournament will work

QUOTE
It's official the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup is heading to Australia and New Zealand.

The dates FIFA has nominated for the tournament to take place are between July 10 to August 10, 2023.
The bid proposes 13 stadiums in 12 cities across Australia and New Zealand, telling FIFA it would prefer a minimum of 10 to be used five in each country.
The bid team is banking on welcoming 1.5 million fans through the gates across those venues for an average of 24,000 spectators per game, which would make it the most well-supported women's World Cup in history.
The 2023 Women's World Cup will feature 32 teams, up from the 24 that competed in France in 2019.
