As previously said an idea is to

1. click on your name
2. click on the show all posts by this member link

3. use your BROWSER search tool (in firefox its control-f in IE its EDIT -> Find on this page) to hone down on a particular phrase.

Hope that helps a little more!

I agree anne.

Having to go to the last post to see the latest stuff can be such a pain. This way you can see the latest stuff right up the top and only have to scroll down a little to see what came before.

For quick moving discussions like on Stocks it makes all the difference for me.

I agree.... the more quality posts the better!... and the moderation team is always busy making sure that stupid posts are deleted.

That said, scenepoints.sharescene.com shows you only get 5 points per post... the big points are awarded for REFERRING MEMBERS via email and ShareScene referral cards and positive reputation points.

I'm about to import my hotmail address book (300+ contacts) and refer them all at once!

QUOTE
The sharemarket was weaker at noon, pulled down by commodities and profit-taking as the market wound down for the weekend.

Soon after midday, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index had shed 21.7 points to 5255.2 and the All Ordinaries had lost 22.2 points to 5203.6.

ABN Amro Morgans private client adviser Bill Bishop said the market was lower at noon on the back of weaker resources stocks and falls in base and precious metals prices overnight.

"The major resources stocks are following the offshore trend and that's down," Mr Bishop said.

"However, it's been a sensational week so this was bound to happen sooner or later, so it's really just a trimming, considering the run we've had.

Seems a little strange! A buying opportunity on RRSO maybe?

Many of the commodities on my CMC seem a bit illiquid to trade well intraday. Do you trade commodities intraday? Which ones?

Also, do you trade US and European indexes often intraday? Which ones?

Well, the market didnt go the way I expected today. The dip everyone expected first thing in the morning, but only lasted for a moment, before BHP and all the other stocks rallied together.

Shows the market is strong!

Anyway, i closed out my short on a reasonably tight stop loss, and then went long... Recovered all my initial losses + a bit more over the day.

Staying LONG tomorrow.

Also got in to Santos (STO) today. A nice break out on the graph! smile.gif

Enjoying the feedback

After the strongest March since 1988, shares are tipped to start this month in negative territory, with Wall Street easing on Friday night and most commodities slipping from record highs.

Stock experts are tipping a 15-point fall, with the resource majors leading the way - BHP Billiton became the first Australian company to be valued at more than $100 billion on Friday.

AMP Capital Investors' Shane Oliver said that after such a strong run - it was also the sharemarket's strongest March quarter since 1991 - shares were due a pull-back. "We might be a bit wobbly this week, but I still think we will finish April higher," he said.

The Dow finished 41.4 points, or 0.4 per cent, lower at 11,109.3 yesterday, the broader-based S&P500 eased 5.42 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 1294.83 and the Nasdaq was effectively unchanged.

I agree Crowman. It has been resources which have been driving up the market, and pulling up all other stocks with them.

It is obvious that the stocks which will be affected the most will be resource stocks. BHP and RIO would be a good start, but for even better shorting opportunities, the smaller miners which have had even bigger % run ups would be ideal.

For longs, utilities and fixed interest products are probably the best place for your money. .

One thing i have noticed though, is that when everyone starts talking about 'corrections' it usually only takes something small to start one going (e.g. some bad data from US markets, as we saw last big correction)

Cat,

Can you help with a CFD question?

Its Sunday evening and I'm trying to put in a STOP LOSS order over my SHORT POSITION on the AUSSIE 200 for mondays trading.

When ever I put in the order, it goes to a dealer before its accepted. There arnt any dealers responding.

With my comsec account, I can put in a stop loss order any time I like. I like changing around my stops in the evening when I have some spare time to look over the graphs etc etc.

Is there anyway to do this with CMC, or are you only able to put in your stops during market hours?

Spot, i dont doubt that, you only need to look at the XAO graph to see that 90% of the time recently has been increasing in value.

Any trade, at any point, would have eventually ended up being a winning trade.

The thing to take in to account with trading on MARGIN though (e.g. CFDs) is that if u pick the wrong entry point, say at the top of a 2 week correction, you will end up wiped out financially... and never have a chance to wait for the uptrend to continue and profits to accumulate.

I think when trading on margin, stops are an all important part of financial management.

Thanks for the story!

Thanks Crowman for the points about the US markets!

At this stage, I think it is likely that I will be SHORT for MONDAY... then take no position for a few days over the Aussie 200, then probably go long again.

Anyway, its enjoable to have this flexibility in trading with CFDs. I'm new to CFDs but I can see my self getting HOOKED. smile.gif

Im a strong BULL for the Aussie market for the forseeable future, but corrections will come and go...

I just hope to be able to keep a solid porftiolio of stocks LONG through out these corrections, and do a bit of trading with CFDs to take advantage of the small corrections on the general uptrend.

I'm not sure whether we need a correction RIGHT AWAY (as in Monday) but my educated guess is that Monday will be a day of consolidation, and the market will probably take a breather and show a bit of red. A healthy thing.

Hi Crowman,

Nah, after the close... at 5107 when i started to see things drop a little! No way I would have put in a short until trading had finished, as last day of the quarter, dont want to go up against any fund manager games .

I nearly always trade wth a STOP. In this case, I'm keeping my stop pretty close, as I think if Monday starts to kreep up, it will probably continue all day... smile.gif

Anyway, just my thoughts. Keep yours coming!

Hi all

Lets get in the CAT DAVIES topic and give her some support and get some discussion going.
I saw her talk tonight in Adelaide, had a chat to her after and she has gained my respect.

Her book is soaring in popularity and will be a great asset to SS as a regular guest speaker!

She will be back at her computer tomororw answering questions, so if you have any, now is the time to ask them!

Dear Cat,

It was a pleasure to see you present along side CMC in Adelaide tonight. You definitely stood out as most interesting and informative speaker at the event.

Not only was the topic of your speech the most informative, but to me it seemed to focus on real valuable education and your own personal experiences, which i found educational and inspirational. I hope you enjoyed your short time here in Adelaide and thank you.

I’m extremely busy and often find my self stuck for time to get through many of the finance books Id like to read, but after hearing you speak I will definitely make the time to read your book.

I’ve been trading for 5 years now, but I’m new to CFDs .I’ve just signed up for a CMC account with a balance of 2 thousand dollars, just to get my feet wet and get a little more experience before getting more involved.

I will definitely take your advice on strict stop loss policies and extending profits by buying more when your trade goes in your favor. (pyramiding in, is how i think you termed it)

A question for you: In what circumstances would you consider a guaranteed stop loss. I remember you saying that you didn’t use any while writing your book. Personally I’m a little hesitant to use guaranteed stop losses. I cant think of too many stocks which would be likely to gap SO MUCH to make it worth the premium (insurance cost) for this service.

Can you shed any light on when you may be likely to use this extra service? Thanks for the feedback.

For those of you who haven’t yet listened to Cat talk on CFD, I highly recommend you check out her book. She has gained my respect!

Good night
Andrew

Hi team,

With regards to this post
http://www.sharescene.com/index.php?showtopic=6450&hl=

I suggest writing to Forrest and explaining it was deleted as it was OFF TOPIC, but we are happy to explain to him that 99% of the time PMs are private, but when there is an issue of members breaking the terms & conditions of the board we have in the past read PMs as a part of our investigation & we reserve the right to do so if needed.

Just this may help CRUSH conspiracy theory stuff that we sit and read all PMs & keep forrest happy.

Does everyone agree? Matt?

Yes. OUCH! Biggest drop in 2 years I read.

The question is, what happens now?

Some are saying we are in for another market correction, just like in March? Others are saying that the market is fundementally strong, and people are just using the US INTEREST RATE SCARE to take a few profits after a nice run up over the last month.

I'm undecided!

Comments?

All ords down 78 points so far today!

Seems to be to be a huge fall, considering the only reason was following the drops in the US overnight over fears of rising interest rates.

Profit taking after a nice run up I guess!

Anyone got any comments?
Andrew

p.s. todays drop breaks the ALL ORDS SEPTEMBER uptrend line.

Its really not relevant, but he did:

Anyway, i just looked again. Seems that he got angry about u deleting one of his posts, and then asked for all the rest of his posts to be deleted.

US and Aust DoD have put $100m cash and (mostly) in-kind into MST over past 6 years.  A SMALL $950k Phase II SBIR contract over 2 years is nice and welcome... but not enough to sure up the MST solvency challenges.  No bank will lend working capital on those speculative terms... but some equity partners might take a private placement stake at 10c??... looking ahead beyond today's quaint froth and bubble to a time (before Tue 13 Sep 2005) when MST's deleterious cash position is more transparent to the market via the Half-Yearly Accounts... with a possible Audit "Going Concern" warning forming part of the Auditor's Review (not Opinion) of those Accounts.

All best MST,

I'm not quite sure what is wrong with this post?

Anyway, it seems that he then asked for all his other posts to be removed. Am i following correctly?

Sorry, this is confusing, i cant wait for GODFAST...

Sorry, been flat out with design work for SS2, but i did have a quick look when they came through.

I got the impression he was going over board, for example reporting someone for responding LOL to his previous post... but i felt this could have been stopped if he got a PM/EMAIL telling him this wasnt acceptable.

Sorry if I missed something. Just struck me as strange. We usually reserve BOOT WITHOUT WARNING only for extreeme cases of abuse from a new member.

I'm confused, was the only reason MygOD was banned was for reporting too many posts?

Surely, if this was the case, we could have simply sent him an email asking him to stop being so trigger happy, and reserve the system for only TRULY unnaceptable posts.

Dear Looking Confident,

Unfortunatley you may find that one of the moderation team may delete your recent post as it isnt clear what point you are making.

I dont really see the need to delete the post, but anyway, would be good to make sure he keeps his QUALITY UP.

In my opinion the market is fundementally strong, so any major correction isnt on the cards, but with a market which just keeps rising and rising, your right, that traders will often jump on any excuse to take profits, and as a result, cause corrections.

Bad profits from major ASX 50s and bad national and international economic data are all things which could start a correction going... but then again, we have seen both of the above very recently and the small dips which resulted never ended up turning in to a longer term correction.
As a result many people commented this showed the health of the Aussie market.

Just my 2c!

As far as a forum goes, really very very very limited features, but as far as some of their other features go... wow, they have spent some time and $! Software wise, one of the best solutions I've seen in a long time. smile.gif

They are hosting with ev1servers.net... SS's old host.

Andrew

p.s. forgive me matt and geoff if im jumping the gun on this one, but on the topic of CEO interviews, we are just starting talks with a startup company doing VIDEO INTERVIEWS with CEO/INVESTOR REPS with view to providing SS members that service.

Not wanting to get off topic... but just quickly, that is very similar to me Focus...

But I also often go through the IN PLAY STOCKS being discussed on SS and use that as a list of stocks I will research technically, then fundementally, and then look for others research on SS.

Thanks Peter for the response.

Maybe chat sites as a research tool could be an interesting topic for a future chapter in a book. There are thousands and thousands of investors in Australia using chat websites and I'm sure many of them would love to hear an experienced and balanced opinion about the PROs/CONs of using discussion commuinities as research tools.

Thanks mate. Yes, that is a problem when you view the website with a MOZILLA/NETSCAPE BROWSER (which you are using).

Very very few SS users are using Mozilla, so we never got around to fixing the problem.... but SS2 is on the way (Geoff & Andy are in Adelaide together working hard on it) and when it is released that should solve the problem smile.gif

Thanks for the effort to point out the issue!

I too have that question!

Peter, alot of authors Ive read have always been so negative of the research gained from online communities like ShareScene and liken it to the gossip you hear at a Sunday BBQ.

Ive personally found ShareScene to be my number 1 sources of research, and combined with my own TA and a healthy dose of scepticism, an invaluable research tool for my trading.

I guess you may be different, as Ive seen you posting around the board before. Does the book talk at all about discussion boards?

Very wise words Peter.

There are so many books and stock market educators out there who try to sell books based on the fact that their new and even more complex TA methodology produces better results than the next... and there are so many books out there that cram a chapter on every last obscure TA technique, in the hope their book will be chosen because it contains just that little bit more info.

In my humble opinion, simple and blatantly obvious TA is the key, and it’s refreshing to hear an authority on the subject agree that sometimes the simpler option is more effective.

Hi Peter,

Im interested if you can give us a short summary of some of the ideas you cover in the book.
Maybe a summary of what each chapter covers. This would be helpful to know if this book would suit my trading style and be suitable to my prior level of knowledge.

I was interested to see that you mentioned you focus quite a bit on TA. What specifically do you cover and how does it differ from other books.

THANKS

Any thoughts on short term market action?

ALL ORDS only lost 9 points after a massive 1%+ slide in the US markets, showing an interesting sign of internal aussie strength... but then today we have seen alot of negative pressure on MATERIALS/ENERGY sectors, and people jumping for cover in the DEFENSIVE utilities.

MATERIALS/ENERGY stocks have been going ahead in leaps and bounds recently. Maybe prices are getting a little HOT and this temporary US JITTERS mixed with a bit of falling commodity prices will be a catalyst for a bit of a small correction/beather? A bit like back in March this year?

Thoughts?

Taking a look at the graph for a second, current price has dipped below the well established trendline for JBM. Fundementals are good, and this is just a trading event, so it could be a good buying opportunity!

Im already very heavy in JBM, and dont want to go any heavier... but just thought Id give my 2c.

I think the ASX is a bit spooked after the OIL JITTERS/INFLATIONARY PRESSURE coming out of the US very recently.

We kept pretty strong (less than 10 points down) despite a massive 1%+ fall in one day on the DOW, showing are not just going to sit and follow the US, and Aussie is confident, but I get the feeling taking slighly more defensive positions in the very short term may be the way to go.

What does everyone think?

Here are a list of industrial/utilities I like at the moment (more defensive stocks):

ASB
BOL
BIL
CAB
COA
CRG
IWF
LEI
MAP
MCG
MIG
ALN
DUE

(p.s. just a preliminary research list)

Andrewn

Yesterdays price action on the ALL ORDS was interesting (in reaction to US). An interesting read below.

QUOTE
There's good volume going through the market so people are cashing up and there's some switching going on as we've seen in the insurance sector where QBE's very good result has got people thinking that other insurers will also report pretty good profits,' Heffernan said.

Meanwhile, he said, Woodside fell on profit-taking with investors likely to switch into BHP Billiton ahead of its full year profit report next week.

'A lot of people are saying this market is a bit toppy but you wouldn't be getting the volumes if it was - let the results speak for themselves I say,' Heffernan said.

CMC Markets market analyst David Land said the market as a whole showed a remarkable resilience to Wall Street's fall overnight of the Dow Jones.

'It certainly shows the strong sentiment that local traders are feeling for the market when they can almost entirely shrug off a large downward move in the US,' Land said.

He said there were only isolated areas of excitement in the market but the modest fall showed traders 'aren't running for the hills if the US markethas a bit of a shake-out'.

Land said Woodside was sold down as traders looked beyond the half year result and worried that higher ongoing crude oil prices are needed to justify the price of the stock.

'Strong results are expected from oil companies at the moment and anything less will be looked upon very poorly by the market,' he said.

Land said the oil companies will need to keep 'pulling new rabbits out of their hats' to maintain market interest.

Hi All,

I'm interested to find out a little more about investment products that track Asian markets. In particular the:

SSE Composite Index
&
HANG SENG INDEX

Are there any tracking funds available for purchase directly on the ASX, or are there only managed funds with exposure to Asia available?

Also interested in European funds if you have information there.

THANKS

Here is something Adder wrote a while ago. While we are on the subject of songs and poetry:

QUOTE

Internet roamer,
Why don’t you stay awhile?
The stocks have turned red,
And you have nowhere left to go

Your shoes are worn,
Your clothes are ripped,
And the scars that you carry
Are from where you used to be

You said, “It’s been fun,
And we will do it again,
Sometime.”
But your sometime should be now

Somewhere poster,
Why didn’t you stay awhile?
We could have made magic,
And made this site grow

The burden you carry,
Is happiness in disguise
Behind the smiles that you fake
You hide the tears in your eyes

Away from sharescene is longer now,
And everything was all right
But you’ve left us all behind,
And given into your senseless plight

Dearest friend, come down from your cloud
You have reached the end of the line
What do we have left to lose
Stay at Sharescene, now is the time?

Andrew, Are you suggesting that I will be able to send a copy of a selected post (including graphis/attachments?) to an e-mail address?

Yes, absolutley!

QUOTE
I would find this very useful as there the occassional posts that really standout, and would be nice if you could take a copy and file for future reference.

Yes I know many would, and yes, we can include an option to CC your self a copy.

QUOTE
The down side would be that some members (lots?) may send copies of many posts which could have a detremental effect on system performance. If it became a problem, you could batch e-mails for offpeak processing.

With MEX back online, wont be a problem, and we can always get more and faster servers if necessary! A dedicated mail server is always an option one day if SS doubles/tripples in size.

QUOTE
If this is what you are proposing, would it be possible to send to yourself without having to enter your full e-mail address.

Yes

Dr Arthur,

Yes, some printed brochures are a priority I think. I dont know how many brokers would hand out stuff for us, without something in it for them. I think they would probably rather control the research their clients are getting.

Maybe some reciprocal deal could be possible?

Where else could we leave brochures?

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the comments.

It is true that the most popular stocks on SS are more likely to be the stocks which attract 'traders' more so than 'investors' as quite simply SS members are generally more 'traders' than 'investors'.

That said, we are trying to cater for everyone!

Classifying stocks as strictly 'long' or 'short' term though wont work, as in every stock there are people taking all different kinds of traders (both long and short term).

Do you have any other suggestions?

Hi All!

Yes it is Krakow, Poland at the moment. Tonight leaving for Kiev, Ukraine! smile.gif

I will be home in a couple of weeks after this break as the number one priority is getting back running on MEX which will solve all these problems.

I think Matt or Geoff covered this, but we decided to stay on BEX for the 3 weeks I'm away as we didnt want to risk changing back to MEX while I was away and unable to make quick configuration changes.

Definitley a wise decision as BEX is running super smooth. smile.gif (other than the speed problems)

Geoff is also fully trained on administering BEX in my absence, and so far is doing a great job!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!... Thanks Matt for your clarifications... and all the best from over here in Poland!

Just a note about memory usage. Linux comptuers will alwys show 90% memory usage. But it doesnt mean its actually using 95% of the memory, it just means its loaded up waiting to be used! Confusing I know! smile.gif

3 weeks till we are back to MEX. So until then.... Fingers crossed BEX keeps up the pace!

All the best

Geoff has implemented a great idea of putting in a message on the BLANK PAGE which is displayed while INVISION IS BUDY SENDING EMAILS which says…

‘Your post has been successfully made. Redirecting you... Please be patient while this is in progress. Thankyou’

…so people are patient and don’t click refresh or back, incase mail is taking a while to send.

Well done Geoff!

Dear FavShare,

We did have a small problem for about 1/2 a day about a week ago which resulted in TOPIC NOTIFICATIONS being delivered a litle late. Was this what your referring to?

If not, it could be a problem with your settings, as the system is functioning correctly and there are no other complaints.

1) It will be a page about MODERATION for all of SS. If anyone has any questions, complaints, etc we will just redirect them or quote directly from that site.

It will contain a list of moderators, background information, policies, how to complain, etc etc.

2) Maybe your on to something Kosmo but I'll leave the comments for Geoff & Matt as they are good at analysing all sides of something like this.

The way I look at it is that showing MODERATOR tag shows moderators active on the site, adding to impression of SS as professional and moderated. The down side is, as you put it, people treating you differently. Understand completley!

Matt, Geoff... ur thoughts... and of course, everyone else feel free to comment.

thanks for the good points

Ian, Graeme,

How would you like us to make members aware of that. Soon we will be launching a site called moderation.sharescene.com with all the policies and information on moderation. Would that be a good place to put that information?

Furthermore, I'd like to suggest a new poll for the front page.

QUESTION: IS SHARESCENE.COM YOUR FAVOURITE WEBSITE?

p.s. Good response Graeme!

It may be an idea. We were planning on keeping BEX as the primary server until SS V2 was launched, but seeing HC may keep having problems it may be an idea.

I'll confirm with Matt and look at doing it in the next day or so.

Just to keep the team updated, MEX (the primary server) is running fine again after faulty network card was was replaced.

The site is still being run of BEX, (the backup server). I'll let you know when we move back to MEX.

Dear Team,

Boy! Problems problems problems! At about 6am Aussie this morning MEX (the primary SS web server) suffered what we think is a major hardware failure which seems to have effected both HARD DRIVE & NETWORK CARD.

We were able to get the hard drive errors repaired within 30-40 minutes, but the network card issue was not so eaisly solved.

While we were working on the problem we immediatley redirected all traffic to our BACKUP SERVER and displayed a 'working on the problem message' that some of you may have seen.

When it became apparent the problem was not going to be solved anytime soon I restored a backup from 5-6am last night on to the backup server (codename = BEX) and have SS up and running agian.

MEX is on the operating table. We have just intalled a CDROM unit inside him to run some extra software to further diagnose the problem. We can then tell if we need to replace the network card or not.

I will keep you updated. But no one needs to stress anymore, as due to our great plan of having REDUNDANT SERVERS we had only a few hours down time.

Practise makes perfect, and next outage we will be able to convert to the backup server even faster.

Matt, Geoff, can u make an APOLOGY to the board while I continue work.

regards
Andrew

Does anyone have any comments?

Are there some important quetions I'm missing, or something that you think is not necessary?

Scene 14: How are you different to other online finance communities?
Scene 16: Are there people chatting about the stocks I hold?
Scene 18: What kind of investors use the service?
Scene 20: Whats benifits does being a ShareScene.com member provide?
Scene 22: How do investors use the information they get from ShareScene.com?
Scene 24: Is it easy to use?
Scene 26: What support do you provide?
Scene 28: Is there a demo?
Scene 30: What is the future of ShareScene.com
Scene 32: How can I get more information?

Hi Moderators, I've got a question I could use some help with...

Just working on some marketing materials and need some help.

I need to come up with the TEN MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS that someone interested in ShareScene.com, but hasn't yet seen the website, may ask about the service.

1) How are you different to other boards?
2) Are there people chatting about the stocks I hold?
3) What kind of investors use the service?
4) Is it easy to use?
5) What support do you provide?
6) Is there a demo?

Do you think those questions are on the right track? Can you add to the list?

Thanks
Andrew

So after the work on the server 2 days ago all the major problems seemed to be fixed, other than 1, and that was our WEB SERVER SOFTWARE crashing randomly.

I installed some software to monitor it every second and restart it in the event of any crash, as a temporary solution.

It seems that once in a while someone is trying to post during this <1 second of down time and this is probably the cause for the double post.

I have:

1) removed all configuration options we dont need from lighttpd (our web server software)
2) recompiled php-fastcgi

I will watch it for the next couple of hours and see if the problems continue.

If they do continue, then it will be time to revert back to a less 'cutting edge' webserver like APACHE smile.gif

Ive been talking to some more people and I thought I would share the over all sentiment I have got from them.

The common feeling is that a small correction was due, but people are running on extra high level of fear and prices are falling unrealistially.

The majority are telling me they feel its definitley short term and probably coming to an end soon.

The fact that people are talking alot about bargains already seems to be a strong indicator that the worst may be over.

Dont just listen to me though!

Thanks all for your excellent response.

Just looking at market action.... in the short term the ASX bounced off the support at 4050. Whether it holds for the rest of the week, I guess we need to wait and see.

In response to the recent posts, here are my 2c:

Kahuna - I've been doing a bit of reading up on Non Farm Payroll and their relevant effect on news.google.com. Am I correct that your suggesting that if numbers come in under wall street predictions then people are going to be less worried about economy overheating, inflation, and the resulting rate hikes, and we may see the market start to bounce back?

From my reading all news sources seem to be quite certain results will be on par of above. What makes you think we may get a lower result than expected?

When you refer to the 'headline rate' are you referring to 'inflation figures'? When are the next figures out? Will a small decrease make that much difference in the markets?

Thanks again Kahuna!

Bloodwynch - I do agree about generally strong FA accross the market. From my research the important Fundemental ratios have
been moving in line with the company growth. In the past big market crashes have come as a result of earnings to price ratios blowing out of control as speculation and greeed ran rife. I dont think we are seeing this currently, which leads me to believe this is not the beginning of a big downturn, but just alot of factors working together to promote a quick sharp correction.

Tex - thats very interesting to hear your observations. Thanks!

Pkay - yes I think that the falling AUD may be a factor for the speed of the sell off. But I read somewhere on SS that the most of the volume was from small investor brokers like Comsec. People were speculating its alot of stop losses getting hit on the way down. Does anyone have any comments on this?

If the market keeps dropping below 4050 does anyone have any plans to take up any option positions shorting the market?

Regards
Andrew

Wow! What a turn around... Ouch ouch ouch!

Id love to hear your opinions on what happens from here.

Personally I feel the Australian Market in General is strong, P/E rations are not out of hand and this reajustment wont turn in to a major down turn in the market.

Who thinks we may see a stablisation at around 4050?

Who thinks this is the beginning a more serious down turn?

Thanks Graeme.

Those will just be temporary problems! Sorry for the confusion.

For those with a little technical background we think the problems we were getting arose from running a slightly too bleeding edge KERNEL.

We have downgraded to a Vanilla kernel and recompiled all major software applications with the latest version of GCC and GLIBC as well as updated to the latest version of all software apps.

I have also made some mods to our INTERNAL SERVER MONITORING system and I'm getting it to run some extra commands in incase of any software crashes.

Fingers crossed things are going to be a lot smoother now. We will be monitoring closely and will be ready to act if anything else comes up.

In other news, another server has been purchased as a REDUNDANT SERVER. This server will have 2 purposes.

1) To make extremely regular backups of all ShareScene.com data
2) To be a REDUNDANT BACKUP SERVER. In the case of any outage on the primary server traffic will be redirected to the backup server.

The server should be build within 72 hours and up and running within a week.

Again, keep this quite on the board until we are ready to announce the developments to the public.

Thanks for the bug notifiations guys.

The email problem has been fixed! We are looking in to a solution to make sure it doesnt happen again.

As far as the duplicate posts, usually that is caused by someone on a bad internet connection refreshing the page mid post.

Has there been a greater number of duplicate posts over the last couple of weeks? Or has it just been very recently. The mail error may have been the reason for this.

If it has been a longer term problem I will need to look deeper, but I cant think of any logical reason for a problem like this to be occuring.

Thanks guys for the back and forwards.

My thinking is that ShareScene.com is very unique as we have a very motivated membership base who are eager to help ShareScene.com grow.

I'm certian that many of our members either work in some media position or have contacts in media jobs.

I'm certian that if we put out our feelers searching for 'media opportunities' many of our highly supportive members would be very keen to suggest opportunties or contacts they know of.

Grahem, i like your ideas. I think some smaller publications would be willing to do a big write up or interview on ShareScene.com. Other ideas like:

- How to Ignore Your Broker & Get the Real Scoop
- How to join the exclusive club for Australia’s savviest stock market gurus

would be appealing.

But primarily I think it will just be a matter of getting a reference here and there.

Sending out press kits educating finance editors on ShareScene.com will help educate people with access to a the public microphone about Sharescene.com.... but the best is always getting a personal lead on someone who may be interested in covering SS.

Anyway, at the moment alot of progress is being made behind the scenes on further developing the ShareScene.com site and service and we want to have this work completed before going hammer and tongs on publicity... but I think we should all revisit this idea in a month or two.

Thanks again for the ideas... and feel free to add comments!

Andrew

p.s. Grahem, re your idea about releasing MODERATED POSTS. I see your idea, but i get the feeling that I dont imagine many media organizations wouldnt care about ShareScene.com enough to look in that much detail in the way it works.

Most media organization would just talk about ShareScene.com as Australias Premium Investment Community where you can get great stock tips and discussion... and not look much further in to the inner workings, untill we grow to a household name in the investment industry...

Great analysis as always Kahuna.

Both technically and fundementally I'm expecting the markets to slow. Though personally I'm not all that bearish.

Company P/E ratios are still reasonable and we have yet to see the mass hysteria of 'buy buy buy' you usually see before a market violently turns around.

The Aussie market remains strong in nearly all regards... but I do think things have to cool off a little eventually.

Keep me updated with your thoughts though, as I find them most interesting and valuable.

Thanks for your opinion on your numbers. I haven't done alot of research, but from the little reading I have done I wouldnt doubt it at all.

Matt, Graeme didnt mean a BUG FORUM just for the SERVER MOVE OVER but a BUG FORUM for the future of ShareScene.com.

This could be a good way to get notified of any little errors with the site.

As most errors only happen when a certain combination of things happen in order it is very unlikely that one of the MOD TEAM will find many of these bugs alone. Therefor it is very helpful to rely on our user base to report any problems.

Dear Moderators,

Another important day in ShareScene.com history is here..... THE NEW SERVER IS LAUNCHED! This is the third server upgrade sinced ShareScene.com launched over 1 year ago.

The new server has top of the line hardware & software and is a big steps forwards in terms of SPEED, SECURITY, RELIABILITY & ROOM TO EXPAND MEMBERSHIP + SERVICES.

We had a seamless switch over at 4am Saturday morning. The board is running incredibly smoothly on the new architecture.

I'm sure you will agree that things are already running considerably faster. I'm enjoying using the site more already due to the speed increase.

What I really look forward to is an end to the the SLOW SERVICE we were getting during peak time (10-12am)!

We will be publicising SHARESCENE.COM SUPERCHARGED on Monday morning via a GLOBAL MAIL and BANNER ADS.

If you do find anything odd, please let us know! We have done through testing before the switch over, and have continued to test after making the server live, but there always could be something we over looked.

Congratulations all! What a great team!

regards
Andrew

p.s. Geoff & Matt, are we ready to LEAK the good news about whats coming in a couple of weeks? (or does everyone already know?)

Has failure to lodge ever had a negative effect on the stock price? Surely its not awe inspiring, but is there much of a precedent?

vedena You made an interesting observation on ShareScene the other day when you mentioned Im putting question marks where there should be apostrophe's. I never put much thought into it until tonight as, after I post, I re-read my post in case it has an obvious mistake and Ive never noticed a problem. But tonight I did and the reason is, the post has been edited by the moderators. Its a problem that occurs when PHP is run on an Apache server and the text in a post has been altered. If the moderators inserted a small text string the problem would not occur have occured but since they havent there is nothing I can do about it.

Hi Team

We are currently having some LOAD PROBLEMS on the SS Server. Too many people using the server at once!

A new dual processor top of the line server was purchased yesterday and we have been busy all day setting it up for *extreeme performance and security*.

It should be fully setup, tested and ready to go production within a week.

In the mean time we may have to live with the occasional time out and double posts. Ive noticed quite a few over the last 20 minutes..... But be assured.... A resolution is not far away.

Regards
Andrew

p.s. lets keep this quiet on the board for now. We will make some kind of an announcement about the new technology when it is up and running!

Great performane. Glad to have been heavy in this stock.

What does anyone make of the last few days of downward moving prices?
Do you think we will see the price bounce back on to the trend line as shown on the graph?

Anyone got any comments?

Thanks all!
Andy

Great news clarifying the recent growth:

QUOTE
Webjet today announced a record gross transaction value total for February of approximately $8.1
million.
Commenting Webjet Managing Director, David Clarke, said:
· Sales have risen a further 11% on the January record despite having three less trading days.
· Compared with February last year ($1.6m), the market represents a 500% increase.
· Individual days in February have peaked at over $430,000.
· As presented in Webjet’s 4d filing, our current rate of growth has accelerated.

Probably some BUY ON RUMOR, SELL ON FACT going on right now. If the price breaks 2.15 - 2.20 id rate it as a solid buy.

Does anyone have anything to add?

Andrew

Geoff & Matt, what do you think of the idea of limiting VIPs?

I think maybe 20 is a tad too small, but I dont mind the idea.

Ola all from ShareScene.com Mexico! smile.gif

Maybe one of the MODS wants to put a word in to LUM. There is a little discussion on why one of the members is a VIP after only 20+ posts.

They are conjecting it is only a HOW LONG U BEEN REGISTERED thing.

Maybe we could clarify the VIP system so they are aware.

thanks!

Hi Guys,

Regarding the .com.au problem. Thanks for pointing that out. Not quite sure how we lost the DNS record, but it wasnt as a result of the crash.

It is all fixed now.

Bye from Switzerland!
Andrew

p.s. about 10-14 days left till I get to Mexico and start the new SS projects! smile.gif

QUOTE (mminion @ Wednesday 05/01/05 10:19am)

Hi Mods,

Just popping in to say hello from Vancouver. The holiday is going great!

I'm checking in on the MODS FORUM from time to time to keep up to date, but I really dont seem to be needed thanks to Matt & all you guys doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work.

So I'm assuming you heard the good news regarding the MEXICO (InterVoice) - AUSTRALIA (ShareScene.com) partnership.

In the beginning of February I will be heading over to Guadalajara, Mexico. In exchange for some of my services provided to InterVoice I will be able to secure for SS a couple of programming staff at our disposal.

This means that many extremely exciting projects that have been simmering away in the background will be fast tracked and finished before we know it!

This is going to be a BIG STEP FORWARD for SS.

Another couple of priorities for my time in Mexico will be developing a INTRODUCATORY DVD explaining and training new members on ShareScene.com, as well as a SS BUSINESS PLAN and BUSINESS PLAN DVD.

Lots to look forward to in February and the following months!

Again, keep up the good work!

Regards
Andrew

p.s. I'm not 100% sure on the zzzedzzz moderation problem, but just to take note that Ed is a friend & possible business contact for SS in the future. Always keep moderation fair, but lets just make sure he is treated well! smile.gif

You can create general threads, but not new COMPANY TOPICS.

99% of the companies on the ASX have already had threads created. If one is missing let the admins know and it will be created 'pronto'.

Thanks

Got a call from BEN from GT FINANCIAL. Another copyright breach.
This time SLAYER in NEO.

The below post was deleted and SLAYER sent a PM explaining about the copyright issues.

Andrew

QUOTE

This is on HC this morning. Credit to Tricom for the research apparently.

Nuenco - An Exciting Speculative Opportunity

Recommendation: Speculative BUY Target: $0.10 Stop Loss: $0.025

Nuenco is an exciting oil play focusing on the San Joaquin Basin in California, one of the most prolific oil fields on the planet. Formally Anzoil NL, NEO has new management and is committed to the exportation for oil and gas in Australia, Asia and the US. NEO provides exposure to an immediate drilling program.

San Joaquin Basin

The San Joaquin Basin California is one of the world's most prolific oil provinces, having produced 26 billion barrels of oil from major fields, of which 51 have contained at least 100 million barrels of oil. The San Joaquin Basin is a major proven petroleum province and the focus of the big oil companies including Shell, Chevron-Texaco and Exxon. The Basin provides low cost, shallow drilling targets and is supported by excellent infrastructure (NEO's project is 2km from an oil and gas pipeline). The Basin is also in close proximity to the energy hungry markets of Los Angeles and San Francisco.

NEO has a 25% interest covering 2650 acres, with the option to double the acreage, in the South East Lost Hills project area. The aim is to capture the southern expansion of the Monterey Formation. The Large Lost Hills oilfield less than two kilometres to the north has yielded over 500 million barrels of oil (mmbo) with increasing production rates since its initial discovery in the early 1990's (currently producing 31,000 barrels of oil per day). The reason NEO has been able to get its hands on a field of such quality is that the majors are focused on getting the oil and gas out of their existing fields due to the high oil price, and they already control deeper leases with known reserves.

NEO have the benefit of teaming up with experienced partners for the project. Including NEO there are four parties each with a 25% interest in the project, the other three being:

· Orchard Petroleum: Management team has a great track record and company has built powerful alliances in California.

· Nahabedian Exploration Group (NEG): NEG is a private group that has drilled several hundred wells offshore California and has relationships with some of the big petroleum companies.

· Matris: Also have a very experienced management team, who have excellent knowledge of the San Joaquin Basin.

NEO have had success with their first oil and gas discovery well, Jackhammer #1. The well encountered approximately 1000 gross feet of hydrocarbon section in the Monterey Shale and Etchegion formations. This discovery exceeded expectations and could transform into a major oil and gas development. This is an especially encouraging result since it was the first well sunk on site. The next stage is to sink an appraisal well which will involve opening the prospective zones and seeking to establish a stabilized flow rate. This testing is to start as soon as possible (as soon as a service rig becomes available). Drilling of Jackhammer #2, the second appraisal well is planned for later this month and will look to extend the Monterey play.

With oil in the ground having a conservative value of $10 per barrel, and management believing the project to have reserve potential of one hundred million barrels of oil, a good find will see the value of NEO soar considering that it only has a market capitalisation of $16 million. The investment costing $2 million has earned NEO a 25% investment in a project that NEO management believe could generate revenues of several billion dollars in oil sales at current market prices. On top of this gas could also produce significant revenue in addition to oil.

The Company has also taken a 25% farm in interest in three more exploration blocks covering some 1913 acres in the San Emidio project area located in the south of the San Joaquin Basin. This project lies between two large oilfields that are only five miles apart - Midway Sunset to the west (one of the largest field in the US at 3.6 billion barrels) and the 150 million barrel Yowlume oilfield to the east.

NEO expects to invest between $5 and $5.5 million in these projects and may need a small (approx $2 million) capital raising to fund the investment.

This project will be drilled over the coming months - dependant on when the rig arrives - and we expect the share price to appreciate into the appraisal well results as speculators come in looking for a good result. This is a pattern often seen with Oil Explorers.

Queensland

NEO has a 40% interest in the Utopia oil Field in Queensland. The project has recently commenced to produce break even to positive cash flows. NEO is working with joint venture partner Oilwells to optimise the value of the field. NEO may look to sell this asset to provide cash flow and focus on the Californian projects.

Technical Outlook

Neo is an example of a stock "coming alive" with volume only having kicked in during the past four months. These stocks can provide awesome opportunity to profit while the story is only just getting out. Other examples of stocks coming alive include Felix Resources in June 2004 and Paladin Resources back in 2003.

We favour that NEO is only at the beginning of a major move higher that could produce spectacular returns. NEO is definitely not without risk however and only a very small position should be taken. NEO is more like an option than a stock as it provides massive leverage to drilling success. Investors therefore need to treat it like an option and be prepared to loose upwards of half the position value on the trade.

NEO is very speculative trade with massive potential and are only willing to include it within the mid cap portfolio with a minor weighting of only 2% - because of its very speculative nature.

The 2% allocation for this trade will come from slight reductions in the weightings currently held in Western Areas and Energy Developments, both currently at 6%. This will be reduced to 5%.
