That's a bit rude, I've not experienced that before. Maybe ring around some other banks to see how they stack up?

Is this normal procedure?

So, I found this "You Beaut" little company some years ago called Equinox, and put some money in it. After a few shaky moments, it became obvious that there was only one way this company was going to go - up, up and away. Unfortunately another little company called Barrick thought so too, and managed to force a take over for even less than the proverbial song.

Received my check for the compulsory acquisition proceeds today .... in Canadian Dollars! My bank tells me that the cheque will need to be sent to Canada to be processed, there will be a fee of around one hundred Dollars, and it will take from four to six weeks before I can hope to see the money in my account.

Is that normal procedure for this sort of thing? In any case, thank you Barrick for rubbing salt into the wound.

Hopefully a bidding war erupts between Barrick, Minmetals maybe even Xstrata?

I am keeping my fingers crossed for something like that to happen. At $8.15 CAD, I think this company would be getting sold for about half price.

I tend to agree about silver, gold less so.

I'm more concerned copper is overvalued than gold.

I have long been against hedging but it seems prudent for some of the new juniors to lock in some years of revenue. Moreso for gold but I see copper and silver worthy of being hedged now.

I wonder about EQN's hedgebook and how much is left.
If it's down to only a few years then maybe the offer is still too low?

Hopefully a bidding war erupts between Barrick, Minmetals maybe even Xstrata?

bvbfan,

Diversification moves such as this one, are typical signals that Gold and Silver may be at or near a major top. Note that while Silver and Gold recently gone parabolic, producer share prices have not followed, in fact some are displaying toppish formations, another key signal of market top. The one to watch from here is “hedge book” ratios of large Gold/Silver miners.

Cheers

Interesting Barrick primarily a gold company would go for a copper stock.

A cheap shot by Minmetals and the 3 time looser Michelmore. I'd be wary of having to do anything with him ever again after previous stuff ups at WMC, Zinifex & Oz Minerals.

Interesting disclosure that FIRB had news of the takeover on March 11.
I would think it would market sensitive news.
Would have thought Minmetals would have announced earlier.
I would hope Equinox had no knowledge of it before Friday.

QUOTE
TORONTO, ON, April 4, 2011: Equinox Minerals Limited (TSX and ASX symbol: "EQN") ("Equinox" or the "Company") notes that Minmetals Resources Limited has announced that it intends to make an unsolicited offer to purchase all of the outstanding common shares of the Company at a price of C$7.00 per share

The board of directors of Equinox will be meeting to consider this unsolicited proposal, and will comment further following careful consideration of the terms and implied value for Equinox.

My two-cents' worth for our board: "Don't you dare!"

I am with Jojo on this one:

Lets hope it will be at a price closer to the $20 then the $10 figure per share.

Good call on the takeover Jojo.
Minmet has entered the building.Makes the Lundin t/o a bit more complex.Requires that to be dropped.
