These emails have been around for donkeys' years.
If in doubt, the very first thing you do is Google a key phrase, e.g. "Mobile Phone Numbers Go Public"
Then you'll find - close to the top - a link to either a government website, a SPAM Service, or one of the many Urban Myth registries, telling you it's a hoax, a fake, or plain Bull$1tt.

A result for this particular BS: http://acma.gov.au/theACMA/consumer-alert-...-register-email

So, relax and find the Delete Mail button.

Mick ---many thanks, but obviously registering via the government agency does work without involving a third party.

I've just "unsilenced" my landline after concluding that I had become sufficiently anonymous after many years. The first day I got a telemarketing call. Still, I used to get some anyway with the miracle of random number generation.
I always try to remember the Seinfeld defence but my memory's not that good and I have to fall back on unspeakable rudeness.

Does anybody know--is this correct information?

If you don't register--is it true you will be charged for calls you do not want?

Is the site mentioned safe--ie is it dinkum?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REMEMBER: Mobile Phone Numbers Go Public next month.

REMINDER all mobile phone numbers are being released to
telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.

YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

Below is a link where you can enter your phone numbers online to put
an end to telemarketing calls. Don't just delete those calls
otherwise you will find that you have been signed up for all sorts
of extra services that you didn't want or know about. Like special
chimes, music etc.
