Is Sunscreen the New Margarine?

Meanwhile, that big picture just keeps getting more interesting. Vitamin D now looks like the tip of the solar iceberg. Sunlight triggers the release of a number of other important compounds in the body, not only nitric oxide but also serotonin and endorphins. It reduces the risk of prostate, breast, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers. It improves circadian rhythms. It reduces inflammation and dampens autoimmune responses. It improves virtually every mental condition you can think of. And its free.

These seem like benefits everyone should be able to take advantage of. But not all people process sunlight the same way. And the current U.S. sun-exposure guidelines were written for the whitest people on earth.

Solar elastosis is generally considered to be a biomarker for cumulative sun exposure.42 However, solar elastosis is a protective factor for sporadic basal cell carcinoma.43 Furthermore, it has been positively associated with melanoma survival.44 Prognosis for melanoma of the back (low solar elastosis) is worse than that for the face (high solar elastosis).4547 Melanomas with elastosis occur at later ages than melanomas without elastosis.48 Consequently, sun exposure is associated with increased survival from melanoma.44 Melanoma is more frequent among people with indoor occupations than among people getting large accumulated UV exposures (farmers, fishermen, etc.).49 Chronic UV exposure reduces and/or delays the development of melanoma.

Why do sunbathers live longer than those who avoid the sun?

Jan. 21, 2020 -- New FDA testing of sunscreens shows that six common active ingredients are absorbed into the body and may linger for days or even weeks, in some cases.

Whats more, the testing showed that just a single application of sunscreen -- whether as a lotion or a spray -- increases the blood levels of these active ingredients beyond the FDAs threshold for determining if they need more study to be considered safe for use.

Its a little bit scary because we just dont know what the biological effect of sunscreen in your blood is, says Alok Vij, MD, a dermatologist at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Vij was not involved in the study.

Previous research has shown that some of the ingredients in the FDA study can disrupt hormones and may lead to fertility problems, poor birth outcomes for babies, and perhaps cancer.

Quarterly results out next week. Feels like something big is on the horizon. I also have big expectations for MYX. It is also very heavily shorted and fda approved. Many similarities here and heres hoping that the tide has finally turned on the shorters as word gets out about these 2 great Aussie companies. Time to buy more I think.
