Certainly looking bullish for CVN with Phoenix news imenint, completion of dorado and volume estimates to come it will be interesting to see where it sits.

Will probably look to take profit as buffalo is still a little way off.

But hey this is OG exploration so who knows what might happen.

Good luck

Thanks for talking up the company's sentiment....done wonders for the share price.
Has nothing to do with the company's activities and progress,as you know.

If I came across someone as arrogant and judgemental as yourself,I most certainley would.

This page was for shareholders to discuss CVN....not for day traders and short sellers to judge and belittle others for holding stock and sticking the course.

Now sir take your idle threats elsewhere,it's time you left.

So village idiot you claim I said profits are bad.....

I sought to enlighten you on your inaquacies and in return you seek to misquote to add weight to a pathetic argument.

Nice to see Arty turn up and explain the perceived loss you believe I've had.

After all these huge profits you're making you appear unable to enjoy them and attack others for having a different investment strategy to yours.....

Maybe your software package needs to include a function that sends the user a reminder to take time out to enjoy life.

Thanks for your advice however I continue to patiently await my return on the investment I've made,I know this strategy doesn't suit yours....thems the brakes.

I did however get a chuckle from your post that started with DISCLAIMER 😂😂

CVN and sentiment....haha your too much.

CVN is being manipulated by algo traders...simple as that.

At least you now have an understanding of the importance of share price to a Company's prospects.
With this in mind if you re read your post from the 15th you'll realise how far off the mark you were.

.I'm staggered in your total lack of understanding of the correlation between share price, business and the economy.I have attached some additional reading material for your perusal(save us going back and forth)
Oil price bounced....CVN shares lost ground....market forces at work😁😁

This is the definition of an investor(not sure short sellers qualify)
An investor is someone who provides (or invests) money or resources for an enterprise, such as a corporation, with the expectation of financial or other gain.

Basics

Stock price movements have a psychological impact on individuals and businesses. Rising stock markets, or bull markets, can create a sense of confidence about the direction of the economy. As prices continue to rise, more investors come into the market, which builds on the momentum. Falling stock markets, or bear markets, usually have the opposite effect. People feel pessimistic about the economy. Media reports often create a sense of panic. People start moving funds away from stocks into low-risk assets, which can depress stock prices even further.

Consumer Spending
Bull markets can create a wealth effect. People feel more confident as their investment portfolios rise in value. They spend more on nonessential and big-ticket items, such as homes and cars. Conversely, falling stock prices create a reverse wealth effect. Falling portfolio values can create uncertainty about the future of the economy. People hold back on their spending, especially on nonessential items. This slows down economic growth because consumer spending is a key component of the gross domestic product.

Business Investment
Stock prices can affect business investments. Businesses are likely to make capital investments when they feel that these investments will lead to rising market values, such as during rising or bull markets. Management has more operational flexibility if sustained stock price increases lead to increased consumer spending. Merger and acquisition activity tends to increase during bull markets because companies can use stock as currency. Initial public offerings increase as new companies take advantage of market optimism to raise capital. Bear markets have the opposite effect. Businesses become less confident about investing in new infrastructure projects or expansion plans. Merger activity slows down, as does the number of new company listings. This reduction in business investment activity slows down the economy.

Considerations
Stock markets are one of the factors that affect the economy, but there are others as well. Interest rates affect the economy because rising rates mean higher borrowing costs. Consumer spending and business investment slows down, which reduces economic growth. Falling interest rates can stimulate economic growth. Fiscal policy decisions also can affect the economy. For example, large budget deficits can reduce government investments and purchases, which can slow down the economy. Currency fluctuations can drive up the price of exports, which can harm export-driven economies

Company's provide society with employment, demand for services in all aspects of the supply chain....

Manipulating the prospects of these company's hurts the economy as a whole....

The difference between me and you is I understand this you don't seem to.

The facts are I want CVN to succeed which in turn will make my investment a success, win win if you like.

Short selling drains the market of investors who are providing the capitol...this is a fact.

Good luck with your strategy I have no intention of sitting in front of a screen and gambling.

The waterholes drying up.

Investing in today's market........

Only a fool would do so in the uneven climate that exists today.

Why would you invest as you call it when the smallest parcel of shares I can buy is $500.00 whilst others can purchase less then? And therefore manipulate market forces as you call them.

No you're absolutely right investors left the market long ago and what's left is gamblers and players in a glorified Ponzi scheme.

I invested in CVN because I believe in the company's management and philosophy, nothing's changed in that respect. In the meantime I continue to earn an ethical living and invest in much more tangible assets which can't be manipulated. Each to their own😀😀

6c target yes likely.....I mean they only have a healthy balance sheet, good management and gas and oil in place....
How could this stock possibly rise in value when it's being manipulated by shorters.

My question is how can an exploration/development company be considered for short selling.

The ASX is no more then a glorified Ponzi scheme.

Couldn't agree more HH and all the best with your trading.
You also need to take it after dishing it out and not have posts moderated.
CVN have good long term prospects and provide somewhere to park some cash if you need to go long. cool.gif
What would be interesting is to compare the fortunes of different trading methods over say a 2-3 year period of someone who has held and someone who has traded CVN over that period.

An old post I found from our esteemed collegue which came up on google.

In Reply To: wren's post @ Apr 16 2013, 01:15 PM

Correction, wren:
A director did buy: On November 8 last year, Neal Fearis bought some 160k in the 8.2c spp; prior to that, he held 9M shares, so he may have been entitled to take up more, but at least he did buy some.
Also, all directors bought reasonable parcels when the sophisticats had the same opportunity at 8.2c. See 3Y's on 29/11/2012.

You have to bear in mind that directors are restricted as to when they're allowed to buy (and sell) relative to dates of some corporate activities and reports. Doesn't change the fact that CVN is in deep trouble and the directors are down like all other holders.

I trade daily, but I am not a licensed adviser. Whether you find my ideas reasonable or not: The only person responsible for your actions is YOU.
I follow two rules: (1) There are no sacred truths. All assumptions must be critically examined. Arguments from authority are worthless. (2) Whatever is inconsistent with observed facts must be discarded or revised. We must understand the Market as it is and not confuse how it is with how we wish it to be. (inspired by Carl Sagan)

Great point you make about management which has been the key to the latest developments.
CVN are now the envy of exploration company's in Australia having discovered the largest oil field in 30 years.
The results speak for themselves and I for one am very happy to hold

Explaining to do? Why? I stated my trade plan wrt CVN and stuck with it.A loss has resulted. If you care to read my answer to you,I clearly stated that I have a higher percentage of losses than wins. So,it is no great event that this trade was a loser. Is it really that difficult to understand. As for my preference for small stocks....where on Earth did that come from?I only trade large sums on highly liquid stocks, something I have stated many, many times on SSc.As for flower rowing his own boat: great stuff however the boat leaks, and always has.Today he put forward good news on a stock which he purchased for 8 cents and it is now less than 2 cents. He also appears overjoyed that he bought CVN for 14 cents and it is now 7 cents.Happy days indeed. His recommendation of BRU when it was $2.30 is another gem, though few could equal his boast of buying RIA at 38 cents while we poor peasants had missed this train as it had "left the station". That stock, since renamed,is now 2 cents. One could go on to his infamous Bollinger Bands 'system ' which gave terrific results when he used yesterday's prices to trade today.

Post by Wren....note the stop

In Reply To: anroo's post @ Jun 19 2014, 05:56 PM
Tough school this! When I have reminded various folk of what they have said previously,or the levels at which they allegedly purchased, there have been enraged howls of "troll'.
All my trades have been openly stated wrt buy and sell prices.Unlike a few posters I do not have the skill to miraculously buy at the low of the day and sell at the high of another day.You may wish to check out recent trades on RRL and NST threads.
OK,back to CVN.My stop is 0.071 which is based on a Point and Figure chart and is based around the idea that should a price fall more than half way through a consolidation zone, one bails out.
Please sit back and enjoy the fun.About 40-45% of my trades are winners,so most trades are losers. What matters how how much you win compared to how much you lose.
Perhaps you may wish to share some of your own trades with buy/sell stated on the actual day the buy and sell were made?

As readers(are there any?) may have gathered,I'm not a big fan of FA or of stocks which are excellent apart from their SPs always decreasing.!
Are we speaking of CVN here?Indeed we are, however every dog may have its day, even this prime canine. The point and figure chart suggests a new leg up is a possibility,or even a probability.
Dipped a toe in the water,buying 300,000 at 0.078.

There your words not mine....I called Wrens trade in CVN gambling, and the reason being that he stupidly ignored the FA with the chest beating arrogance in stating I don't care about FA.....down right stupidity.....I do use TA in conjunction with FA because I believe in small cap explorers it has proven to be more successful.
I am not actively trading at the moment as I have 2 businesses to run and am time poor and quite frankly can't be bothered,I have parked cash in CVN on the basis of achieving a return based on the given reasons in previous posts. The market in its current form is a glorified Ponzi scheme IMO.
When I can buy shares in the same form as my competitors I will become interested again.
ATM my return on investment in my business activities is certain.....
As for Wren......he has a long history of airing his opinion on others trading practises and pointing out the perceived error of their ways.
Payback can be a bitch.
Good luck in your future investment in CVN

Sorry you're so confused.....as I have not recorded a loss I fail to see your point......
As for being an astute investor..... Thanks but really we are 70% thru this drill and then we have another and of course Thailand improving and a solid cash position with funded assets on the books.

Yes have to agree drilling issues are nothing new....which poses the question as to why TA guys would not consider FA on this occasion, had Wren opened his eyes to the facts he would have made a profit instead of a loss. How very foolish not to at least consider.
In light of that I would then conclude that merely relying on TA is gambling....

Thanks for your research.....you're not bored
You are correct in the fact I have not lost on CVN as yet and hopefully the bit finds gas and plenty of it.
I do have a large tax bill from my real estate activities which is bitter sweet..... Do you have any ideas as to how I can minimise?
Selling my shares to allow the chip scabs to prosper is out of the question however I am open to anything else.
Oh BTW my bank manager is not in the least bit interested in my cash transactions, however he may be concerned with you're blind faith in small caps and charting especially when a drill is concerned.
He may even see you're actions as reckless gambling and pull the rug on you're charade.

Wouldn't you say that any investment that can potentially lose 1-2-10-20-99% would be classified as a gamble and therefore anyone investing in the ASX would be considered a gambler?

I stopped reading when it became about who was right or wrong and it stopped being about the Company and its activities...although hats off to Flower for trying.

I am amazed though that the same posters calling this stock a dog have been recently trading it....undermines SS...

Yes I am still in as I believe it has the potential to get back to the 14c mark for break even and beyond with the upcoming drill.

No I don't love it

And the reason I still hold is I find sitting around a computer screen tedious and boring and with the above in mind am prepared to sit on a paper loss.......for now.

I know this goes totally against the grain of traders and trading plans but i'm not bothered and nor should you be.

Lets see what tomorrow brings.

Then that would be an entirely different strategy....
Could be a BESBS opportunity, but I suspect your long in which case you would need to factor in the cos for this well.
If its a not commercial the market could savage the shareprice in which case once the dust settles it could present some excellant buying opportunitys.
Converting from explorer to producer is not something that happens overnight its a long process.
See EGO for rough timeframe.

Think you may have to wait till the well is appraised.....
Hence the sell off,the excitement and unpredictability of the drill is over and now the waiting game begins.
Wouldn't be buying ATM,would be waiting till the JV puts a timeframe on further operations IMO.

Yes I think that's exactly what their doing, if you have a look at some of the arrangements they have in place that link back to board members it's a joke.
A board spill is what's required to get any return here.

Sorry Mista you obviously missed some posts.
You want proof, obviously difficult to prove however if you have access to the last 2-3 weeks trading pattern it is obvious what has been going on in relation to,
1. Increased volume on no negative or positive news.2.The Algorythmic trading which has occurred coupled with volume increase.3.The sucking in to the market of stop loss activated parcels of shares and subsequent sales of said shares for a 10% or so profit probably less over the period.
One can stick their head in the sand and pretend its not happening but the smart money is steering well clear of this sector which in my opinion is disappointing.I was only pointing it out to those who are long, in an attempt for them to consider the reason they invested in CVN and to weather the storm,I have made my feelings known on short selling ect

My opinion only of course, hope this clears up any confusion.
Cheers

I was also just making a general statement which was my opinion on the defenders of such behaviour and their motivation if you like,so as I didn't name anyone in particular I accept your apology and we move on with differing opinions.

Hey guys can understand your frustration....was thinking of taking a position in SYX and others operating in the area however the recent trend of price drops on good news persuaded me otherwise.
You can understand the reluctance of those in charge of others funds not being prepared to take a risk when the price tanks on great news, and I'm afraid until this trend changes this will become the norm.

A.Recent trading patterns
B.The fall in share price has not been consistent with the company announcements released.
Setting stop losses is a the only way of protecting capital for traders, however it can also expose shareholders to the types of scams that are rife ATM and are being largely ignored due to the commissions on trades being made. Those who set their stop loss at say 10% on Tuesday watched on Wednesday as their shares were sucked in to the market to be gobbled up and on sold later in the day.
So they still have their capital in place minus 10%.
What would their next move be???
If you weren't watching the screen all day, I would say keep it in the bank, and if you look at the volumes going thru across the small cap sector most are. This poses problems for exploration company's ability to raise cash whilst controlling the amount of shares having to be issued.

CVN have a reasonably satisfactory cash position for their work commitments and would seem to be undervalued at these levels.
Unless of course we are about to receive a curve ball, which could explain the increased volume on Wednesday.Algorythmic trading has brought an uneven playing field to the market and opened up the ability to manipulate, short selling just goes against the spirit of what the market is about and also encourages manipulation.
My opinion only.

Interesting data come to hand 1% of day traders manage to stay in front......
The other 99% unwittingly line brokers pockets whilst killing any momentum that small caps try to make allowing the raising of capital for reinvestment and maturing of projects.
Instead we have mass selling down of any positive news so pip traders can kid themselves on their making a profit, remember 1%!!!!

Who in their right mind would invest in such a sham......no one look at the volumes.

You also commented on timeframes,ATM there is not enough long term investors prepared to commit, and I don't blame them with the carry on (labour party style)in the market these days.

I would think the market has priced in the possibility of negative news already hence the shift down to the current low.
The positives would seem to outweigh the negatives ATM,cash position improving by the day since the new JV partner has taken over which bodes well for CVN when the money comes for small caps again.

Think you'll find the same data over all small caps ATM.
Bluechips have had a great run small caps have been ignored so only a matter of time before investors turn their attention back this way, CVN in a strong financial position and with positive news on the horizon now is the time to buy for maximum return.
Barring major catastrophe can't see it swinging to the downside.

Be careful reporting your status as a long term holder, lots of brokers ready to shout down LT holders trying to convince investors to become day traders to pump up their commissions.
Recent study has found only 1% of day traders keeping their head above water the other 99% over leveraged facing disaster.

Not happy about being judged????
The word hypocrite comes to mind.
I don't have time to trade daily and I'm sure there are plenty of other people in the same boat.I do however have time to research a company and based on that DD go long and wait.
So you aren't making money from me unless someone is trading my shares without my knowledge.
Short selling and algorithmic trading is slowly choking the market as we don't have the turnover to sustain it.Who in their right mind will invest(go long) in a market place where there are two sets of rules?

As I've pointed out before my holding is not for sale...

QUOTE
I once used the example of a mate's written off race car. He could have sold his historic racer for much more than he paid (Interim gain) prior to him crashing it yet despite being a total wreck (interim loss) , according to your way of thinking, he has lost no value only because he has not tried to sell. I think any sane person would agree in the case of the total wreck, he has lost value and that loss is real.
You say he should re-build, but any future investment would in no way limit the current loss. He could have sold but didnt, now he has lost...simple truth.

I don't think this is of any relevance as the race car is wrecked and therefore worthless....
If you read the letter to shareholders there is a way back to Flowers break even point, and if he wished to sell he would have lost nothing apart from capital being tied up for a period of time.
If he were to hold to the NW shelf drill and with an increase in BOPD from Thailand he could realistically make a substantial profit......
As you say your not interested in the fundamentals of a company, which I find bizarre as they dictate the future direction of the shareprice.
The shut in of wells in Thailand has and continues to be a major problem for CVN and one that needs to be resolved ASAP.

Cant believe there's no discussion on this stock.....there is not a single small cap around that rivals the potential of MEO and it seems no one holds except for myself.....

Will taking up of my full entitlement come and bite me or will it prove to be a master stroke....

Soon all will be revealed.

Hey Grommit,
Holding @0.054.....
Richard Cottees kicking goals bringing in Santos and Total, respected majors.Something the previous administration was unable to achieve so it's now blatantly obvious who the problem was there.
Offloading of the coal assets next.
Cash seems to be our only problem although large options holders are being contacted which can potentially add 48m.
Final results from Surprise may also provide some financing options.
Liking the price target in the Carmichael report onward upward.....
Stop loss set so letting it ride for now......36-40c price target in the near term????

You seem to have an unhealthy obsession with flower.....

Why do you feel the need to belittle him in this forum.

Flower believes in CVN and has invested for a long term gain, company's need investors to raise capitol and buy in to a vision, wasn't that what the market was set up for??????.

I think its a bit immature having no interest in CVN except to troll those who are long term holders(that goes for the bird also)

Keep fighting the good fight flower!!!!!!!!

Thanks Mista great post, feel free to post what you like.I can only speak for myself but I do find other peoples methods/opinions interesting as long as they are given in a non judgmental format with no underlying agenda.

In hindsight I would have been better to sell and buy more at the bottom, did I believe it would fall to those levels, no.

Now trading conditions have returned to some sort of normality I will be setting stop losses again !!!!!

And once I get my latest project off the ground more time to spend on my share portfolio.

I do take on board your comments, however I hold smaller parcels then day traders and also have a different strategy.

You do offer very good opinion having said that respect other peoples, whether you agree or not as you are not aware of their individual circumstances.

BTW I do have a calculator and had I been selling at exactly the right time and buying at exactly the right time I to would have made a profit.

Would that profit in dollar value be more then I could earn dedicating that time to my businesses then the answer is no,hence my strategy and my spread of investment.

As I have said before I trade using cash not credit and have been too busy to devote the time to trading.

My strategy is to buy/accumulate and hold O/G company's that have large acreage are free of debt with cash reserves and are either producing or on the verge.
So to trade in and out does not suit me at all.

Question- where do you see CVN share price being in 6-12mths time??

QUOTE
What one does have to do is have absolute confidence that the share you hold is not a share of a basket case company which of course fundamentally CVN never has been, I can pick a few stocks featured on SS that I would be very concerned about averaging down into, CVN was never such a stock--as some of us have pointed out for a long time.

See above Mista the point I was trying to make.

I am not closed on it as some stocks are failures so I am not abdicating averaging down on every stock that loses value. blink.gif

Not every situation is the same, for me to sell at a loss, wait for it to bottom out and then be confident that it would rebound then buy back in,as opposed to a hit on paper buying small parcels around the bottom level and now almost back in profit with 3x the amount of shares.

There are obviously a lot of different options for in this case the same/similar result and a lot less time agonising in front of a screen.

Exactly my point the market is reacting to uncertainty in Europe CVNs core business hasn't changed again why should I sell ?

Please I don't need your help But I will say it again I have not lost anything as I still hold a share which will recover from it's current oversold position.

Why do you get so angry with people who don't react to what a chart tells you, I am not interested in chasing losses but good luck with that strategy

Like I said let's not overreact and see how it plays out then we can compare notes ,but in the meantime if someones opinion varies from your own then just respect it and move on it's not a pissing competition.

Read the post , brierley was trying to suggest expenditure for the qtr was going to be 20million when in fact it was just over 5 million.I had been trying to point this out to him.

I can read a report I know what the expenditure is for the following qtr.

Your posting on this site is terribly uninformative.

The cash backing is now around $90mil/16cps

They have 5 sets of seismic acquisition over various permits slated for the next 6 months.

Going by the exploration commitments estimated expenditure in the 2011 Financial rpt, looks like around $17mil in total will be spent on said seismic.

Add in their hefty salaries/admin costs and we could easily see ~$20mil come off the cash balance in the next few months resulting in around 13cps cash backing.

So I reckon 13cps is the floor in the sp between now and the ENI funded well mid 2012.

As I said incorrect expenditure was expected to be 4million and ended up over 5 million so not quite the 20million you were stating some months ago.

This was the point I was trying to make to you but you would not listen.Fact 5 million and change spent not 20 million now do you see!!!!!!

5mill>20mill now do you see!!!

I think in this instance the following statement is what we have been trying to explain to you although you have had your ears closed.

BTW I received some sound advice once which has been invaluable 2 ears 1 mouth.

Now to the statement

Kind of bringing this back to the debate, whether this is a good or bad idea? It really depends on your strategy? Are you investing in the company or just playing the stock game?

If you are investing in the company, then you did your research and have a good feeling of what should happen with the stock.

I have done my research and am investing in the company the chart to me becomes irrelevant.I know to you someone who is guided by charts alone that you find this horrifying.

Once the stock moves in to positive territory @17.5c I will review my position but I will not be handing over my shares at a loss.

Today's update only strengthens my resolve and confidence and another parcel is not out of the question (dependent on the outcome of the CTP announ)

As for the rest of your cut and paste MPL I don't think you can say whether averaging down is good or bad it really comes down to the company and the health of it's balance sheet and future business prospects and as far as CVN goes both are very healthy.

As for comments regarding bank interest a balanced portfolio of all the asset classes should be every investors goal I would have thought.

No quite serious please explain how I have lost?

I have money earning interest in term deposits and various other investments, some are performing some aren't CVN being one of those that isn't.

Why would I sell now? Tell me what part of CVN core business has changed since 23c?

They still have cash in bank, oil in ground and a strategy to increase production and also phoenix which has some x factor.

How very noble of you arty pats on the back for you.

I was actually anticipating a rise in production this did not occur hence the drop in price what can one do?

Sell, sure and accept a loss draw a line on a chart and wait till it hits the predicted price and buy?

No need for me to sell and lose as I invest cash and don't need to as I see the bigger picture with CVN.

As for the rest of your post, verbal diarrhea. The point I was making is that everyone is entitled to an opinion if that differs from yours then bad luck.

Talking up ones investment or discussing future operations is what this forum is all about isn't it?

No incorrect 17c (after averaging down)and why the anger?

Yes I have 2 day jobs actually, the share market for me is only somewhere to park some speculative cash so not really bothered about the price of CVN I won't bother selling until production ramps back up and the WA assets are farmed out.Not interested in chasing losses and lining others pockets because I haven't actually lost anything yet!!

How long will this take? Don't really care mate but if you insist on a time line I would say 2nd quarter 2012.

Sorry not worth me sitting around staring at charts and gambling haven't got time but good on you if you are making a living from it in this climate.

I have averaged down as I see no real change in the buisness from 20c.

Flower as a holder of the company knows the business also hence his reinvestment

Yes the price may go down to the levels that are showing up on your chart, well done for sitting on the sideline being critical of another investor with a longer term strategy.
By the way are you trading CVN if not why are you posting here?

I see oilers being the big gainers in 2012 and is the reason I have invested/averaged down on the oil stocks I am holding .

We all can't be swing traders so accept another mans investment strategy.I refuse to use stop losses ATM I have done in the past but in the current climate of fear and panic as a longer term trader I refuse to hand over my money to the shorters.

Maybe in 12 months we could share our results on CVN?

Estimated cash flows for next quarter

Any new farminees will also pay a share so at this stage 4mill is the estimated outflow for the quarter any other figures are false and misleading
