Has anybody traded CFDs in the company IIF?

As you would know they were placed into a trading halt on the 27th of October to raise funds from institutions. The allocation was undersubscribed. So on Friday night (20th of November) a compulsory acquisition was claimed against all share holders who owned IIF CFDs prior to the trading halt. They were forced to take up a full allocation at 48 cents one for one. This equates to a 3 cent loss and they were allocated after the market had closed.

I personally have never before had to buy shares or CFDs on a compulsory level. This company was put into a trading halt at their request.

Does this now mean that companies can ask for a trading halt, and, if allocations are not taken up in full, force their existing shareholders to make up for those unsubscribed amounts.

This sounds just like a perfect ponzie. thumbdown.gif

Does anybody know when exactly the annual report is due? The ANZ web site vaguely says 'November each year' , whereas other sources gave us 21 October which obviously has not occured.

Hey, Frmthefuture, couldn't agree more. Certainly can't share the same exposure and trading history with this stock, however, had the odd uptrend and traded it (not long enough, of course) and have been tempted to trade the downtrend, just haven't had the guts since I still don't know how to place stop losses on CFDs. Whinge.

Very good comments, Jimmy123, I agree - I have also found it very hard to chase some gains by shorting and am now trying to make the most of the positive momentum before the sell off in June.

Hi James - according to the ASR the trading levels are between 5326 (lower boundary) and 5405/5458 upper -its just hovering around 5405 right now. If it breaks through 5405 it may go through 5450-58 another key resistance area to consider taking shorts from.
I'm currently short - got in a bit early I suppose and with my luck will be most likely stopped out very shortly. grrr.gif

... by the way, re intra day or swing trading ... if you're in Sydney this coming Sunday come along to the seminar on Swing Trading March 30th 2008 Sunday 10am - 12.00pm held by Robert Kreft from Bulls & Bears Networking.
The Event takes place at the Harbord Diggers Club, Evans St in Harbord, Sydney. I've been a member of this share trading club for some years now and the seminars/talks are being held once a month. http://www.bullsandbearsnetwork.com.au/ Great place to meet winners and losers just like yourself!

In reply to: Monteverdi on Wednesday 26/03/08 08:24pm

Hi Monteverdi,
Just be aware of the extra brokerage charges when you batch your trades together as a SELL order. IG charges brokerage in this case as a separate entry. However, if you close each trade individually, then the brokerage has already been charged when opening the position and there is no charge when closing the position.
Still, rather pay the extra brokerage if the market is moving quickly against you as has been the norm lately. devilsmiley.gif

In reply to: James Austin on Wednesday 26/03/08 07:10pm

Hi JA,

Also subscribed with IG Markets - impressive platform, just wish I knew better how to trade the indexes... didn't go too badly with the odd currency or commodity trade recently as suggested by ASR.

Haven't had any much luck with the intraday index trading yet at all - would love to learn some tricks. The loss of even a single trade grows too quick too large, even on the index $5.- or $2.- minis, so that I often exit in a panic only to lock in losses. And with tighter stop losses, I always get stopped out too early and lose again. So went back to trading share CFSs - they don't move as frantic, but still not easy to predict in this current market.

Anyway, had to go back to work, so less time now for intraday trading anyway, but still very keenly following this thread - thanks EB, Danville, aus and all to your contributions!

Hey kennywaylass - absolutely appreciate your super-honest posts. I've also very reluctantly offloaded some CVN at .56 at a loss. But then again, I had been trading CVN with good profit since Nov 07 and feel confident to get more profits sometime later in the game.
When you say: ..there's no prizes for holding in downturns... it makes my stomach turn, as I am still holding on to some old stocks that I either got for a 'bargain' years ago like BHP, BOQ,CBA,NAB... but also young oilers - had a shocking dump from AED and am still holding, reduced my holding of NWE and very much regret still holding WMT.
I have also decided to trade this market and am trying to learn quickly how to trade CFDs to enable me trading during a bear market. Tough learning so far.

Hey J - I followed your hint this morning and took some profit. Had dipped my toe in and bought 10K of ZFX two days ago for R$8.794 and sold today at 10.55 - locking in 20% profit.
Even if the market roars higher and ZFX with it, who cares, at least I can allow myself a relaxed long Australia Day w/e and can still buy back in at relative bargain prices ... Thanks for reminding me and have a good one.

Hi - according to the Australian Stock Report we may have seen a classic case of 'fat lingering' - which describes what happens when a Futures trader accidentally hits the wrong button and this is what was later confirmed - some trader entering a wrong trade on the S&P500 which caused a huge cascading effect with huge advanced computer programs stepping in 'to arbitrage away the opportunity'...

Hi Grommit, I was pondering the same question and ran your query past The Chartist who I've been happily subscribed with for quite some time now and here's what he answered from a strictly TA point of view - this was just after lunchtime...
"There is a little selling around at present as well as some type-A bearish divergence. if its to pull back it may come back to 0.35. However, type-A bearish divergence is also a sign of possible consolidation so if it consolidates then breaks out again, the trend looks strong"

Hi Meg,

You only need to get hold of the share just before it goes ex-dividend.
As Chariot20030 said a few posts earlier: ..."You have to buy before the ex-dividend date. The ex-dividend date is the day the share starts trading without the right to the dividend (i.e. ex-dividend)."
Be aware though that the share price may drop just after it goes ex-dividend - that's because some holders sell the share on the day they have secured the dividend.
As Metala stated earlier on: "Dividend season is near"... I'm currently waiting for some chash to resurface after yesterday's wipeout and may look at buying some WES shares for the dividend then.

Each margin lender has different rates and they will change their margin allowance depending on the risk exposure they are prepared to carry. Comsec took Oxiana off its margin lending list six months ago, however, if you owned the stock prior to it being taken off, you would have still received the margin lending allowance on your current loan. Once you sell the stock that's it unless they change it back to a non-zero lend. So yes, they do take it on and off. Hope this helps to clarify ... Schwenki
