ANZ has been at a discount vs. NAB & CBA.

But it appears that discounted gap is diminishing.

I bought 2000 shares in Aug 05 more for the dividend yield, but the $10k increase in the head price is a bonus i didn't factor on back then. http://www.sharescene.com/html/emoticons/king.gif

The oz has an article on banks today two brief cuts

HSBC is capitalised at $260 billion, had $2056 billion in assets as at last December and made a net profit of $21 billion in 2005.

Impressive as it is, HSBC is still outranked by Citigroup and its market cap of $325 billion, a similar-sized asset book and profit last year of $27 billion.

Both leave the nation's biggest lender, tiny Commonwealth Bank, far behind with its $60 billion capitalisation, $329 billion in assets as of last September and $3.5 billion profit for 2005.

. . .

Then as to whether a takeover is likely????

An economic downturn could make one of the major banks vulnerable, as with ANZ and Westpac and their property and commercial exposures in the recession of the early 1990s.

While the markets are rising as they are commissions on funds under management are rising. When BHP stops fueling the rises and the hedge funds get out of commodities with a crash, then the financials will realise their growth is blighted.

Till when?

party party party!
