Hi all,

This topic is currently being discussed at another forum and wondered what some here have to say?

I have a laptop(backup to main PC) which I use a Vodafone wireless data card( as my backup internet should B/Band on main machine die)

I am wondering what other wireless data providers members may use, and if you are happy with service and support.

I have become very frustrated with Vodafone(hard to talk to anyone who knows what they are doing,...er hard to actually talk to anyone) and looking for a new home.

Cheers

BSA,

I use a Telstra cdma card called a "Sierra" for my laptop (mini-max desktop version also available), these work wherever there is cdma coverage even some of the most remote places, which I have tested, in the city you will get EVDO speed which is as good as it gets about 150ms response times, at home if you ping say www.yahoo.com.au you should get about 15 to 20 ms, so you can compare. If you are not close to a major city then you will get 1x which will give you response times of about 400ms. I have found this card a life saver and works everytime as long as there is coverage, as for cdma getting phased out if that every happend these cards will work on 3g and might already be working on the 3g network, actually just checked the box and it says Qualcomm 3G cdma.

Hope this helps.

Perhaps try http://www.unwired.com.au. I dont know anybody who have used them but they do look like the business.

In the US we have a new network called EDGE which is slower than 3g but faster than GPRS. It works greats for users of Blackberries who need to serve the web reliably and relaitvely quickly.

Dfonze is CDMA getting turned off shortly? I could be wrong but I am sure I read something to that effect.

Thanks Drrc and others for replies, I have joined Whirlpool forum and asked some questions will see how that pans out, but so far from here it would appear telstra are safest for my needs.
