Thanks, Dr_Dazmo! For a major presentation to such an important gathering to describe the CVM testing process, developed and marketed by SMN, as becoming "Routine", is a big vote of confidence. One more step, adding to the momentum this company is acquiring.

There is an excellent mix of SHM related presentations, including aerospace, rail, bridges, etc. so this bi-annual workshop is relatively big in the SHM world.Looks like most of specific interest to us are on the first day of proceedings:

When the U.N.âââہ¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚¬ÃƒÆ’¢Ã¢Ã¢â€š¬Ã…¾Ãƒâ€šÃ‚¢s International Civil Aviation Organization analyzed the typical costs of running a medium-sized commercial aircraft such as a Boeing 757-200, the group found that the cost per hour of maintenance was more than in-services operation costs for fuel and the crew, respectively. Globally, the aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) market is predicted to increase from $118,000 million to $154,000 million by the end of 2025. At the same time, competition has intensified, and ticket prices have been in a steady decline.

Hi Dr Dazmo,

That $150k per day cost to the airline I understand to be of two components -

One is certainly the cost of the maintenance presumably in manhours and what ever is required to effect a maintenamce procedure, and the balance of the $150k per day to be in lost revenue due to the fact the craft is grounded. I also understand that to perform an inspection on the wingbox ie the part where the wing joins on to the fuselage is at least a three day exercise thus total cost of this procedure is of the order of $450k. This work involves almost stripping the internals of the craft and then removing the floor to just gain entrance into the wingbox. I can imagine the airlines just hanging out for some SHM in this part of the aircraft where with SMN's CVM devices all they would need do is read some gauges in a convenient location to ascertain the health of the structure within the wingbox. Huge savings involved. If there are some 70 CVM sensors attached to the aft pressure bulkhead just imagine how many of these might be in the wingbox :rolleyes:

Hi Draughtsman,

I think you're spot on.

While it's difficult enough to get a good handle on the revenue to be generated from sensor sales, it's even more difficult to determine the ongoing "annunity" income potential to be generated from the operator savings.

Some inspections probably don't "cost" a great deal in terms of labour, etc, the real "cost" to operators is not having the aircraft in the air generating revenue!

 

According to Google (who else!) there have been 10,559 737's delivery to August 2019.

Even excluding all other Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, etc models, that equates to a very large cost to airline operators in terms of potential lost revenue.
