Cum: Means 'with' and refers to the market in a security when that security trades with the benefit of the entitlement associated with it e.g. dividend, bonus, interest, rights.

You must buy (or hold) the shares when quoted as Cum-Dividend (CD) to be entitled to the current dividend.

Ex: Means 'without' and refers to the market in a security when the security trades without the benefit of the entitlement associated with it e.g. dividend Once the security goes Ex-Dividend (XD) and you buy the shares, you will not be entitled to the dividend.
