MOSCOW, April 1 (UPI) -- Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin ordered a biotech program be developed by May to enhance the country's presence in the global biotech market.

 

When issuing the directive to the Economic Development Ministry Friday, Putin said Russia accounts for less than 0.2 percent of the global biotech sector, RIA Novosti reported.

 

"We need to accelerate the development of a special coordination program for the development of biotechnology in Russia," Putin said. "Our goal is to change this situation, to form conditions for the creation of a powerful bio-industry sector in Russia."
