texas4qld
Well, so much for the 100 point futures http://www.ShareScene.com/html/emoticons/stun.gif ---------------------- Profit fears hit US stocks July 22, 2004 - 7:49AM In New York, US stocks tumbled, with technology shares leading the retreat, as fears about slowing growth in corporate profits overshadowed favourable news from Motorola Inc and Microsoft Corp. The technology-dominated Nasdaq Composite Index, which had rallied on Tuesday, fell more than two per cent, recording its biggest one-day percentage loss in more than four months and its lowest close in nine months. Solid results from conglomerate United Technologies Corp and others held up the blue-chip Dow Jones industrial average for much of the day, but the Dow fell into negative territory in a late-day flurry of selling. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index fell 42.70 points or 2.23 per cent to 1874.37, its lowest close since Oct 24, 2003. It posted its biggest percentage loss since March 15. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 102.94 points or 1.01 per cent to 10,046.13, its lowest close since May 24. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 14.79 points or 1.33 per cent, to 1093.88, its lowest close since May 21. Trading was heavy, with about 1.7 billion shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange and 2.1 billion shares on Nasdaq.

theflasherman
i'd say there might be some bargains around today, particularly with some oil and gas stocks being sold down in the general malaise. I'd pick TAP and ROC as the outstanding contenders.
Bloodwynch
There's an overreaction in the resource sector today. Sure weaker base metal prices overnight, but the aussie dollar got a pummelling.
tom924
Base Metals are all up last night in Aussie Dollars. The Aussie dollar fell more than 2% Resources should bounce back this afternoon. Cheers.

jbeatty
US stocks poised for a major correction tonight in the wake of disappointing jobs figures. Dow, Nasdaq and S&P futures all down. Looks grim for the ASX on Monday. http://www.ShareScene.com/html/emoticons/puke.gif
thekiwi
In reply to: jbeatty on Friday 06/08/04 11:11pm Might see a retest of 10000 area support ... maybe even back to 9940 Soo glad we have the AUS market ... as compared to the US ... its performing so much better. Wouldn't be surprised that quite a bit of foreign investment is kicking the Aus along at the moment. Cant help but feel that bad news is around the corner for teh US market .. but hope the Aussie is trong enough to withstand it ... http://www.ShareScene.com/html/emoticons/cool.gif
