On Saturday Extra [ABC Radio National] this morning was a very interesting segment. It did not mention VCR specifically. But relevant to VCR nevertheless. http://www.abc.net.au/rn/talks/saturday/stories/s1642884.htm Biotech Profile The names CSL, Cochlear and Resmed would be reasonable familiar to most of us. But outside of a handful of high profile and commercially successful businesses, Australia's biotechnolgy sector is more often defined in terms of dreams rather than realities. Of the roughly 140 stocks that could loosely be defined as biotechnology, a large percentage will never navigate the many financial and regulatory hurdles that stand between a good idea and a the finished product. Guests on this program: David Blake Co-Editor of Bioshares Alan Roberston CEO Pharmaxis You can hear it from here: http://www.abc.net.au/rn/podcast/feeds/satextra_20060520.mp3 It's the last 15 minutes of the program. Download is 24.5 MB

In reply to: davesss on Friday 28/04/06 09:54am QUOTE Ventracor plans to apply later this year for the VentrAssist to be approved in Europe and anticipates the device to go on sale early next year. It hopes to make the device more widely available in Australia through another trial. Details of that study are yet to be announced to the Australian Stock Exchange. Next week is Heart Week. Last few lines sort of nicely lead into the very last line. Clever bit of word play in this article.

In reply to: Avenger on Wednesday 22/02/06 04:00pm QUOTE Hi All A couple of new terms thrown in the equation. DT and BTT Approval. DT - Destination therapy. Means the recipient is going to have the artificial heart for rest of his/her life. BTT - Bridge-to-transplation. The recipient gets an artificial heart only until a suitable donor is found to get a heart transplant. http://www.sharescene.com/html/emoticons/graduated.gif

In reply to: drg on Saturday 20/08/05 01:30pm QUOTE seems like VCR have completed two implants so far in the US???????? I don't get that impression yet. From quilton's find QUOTE ``I feel absolutely marvelous,'' said a smiling Shawn Henson, the first patient to receive the newly designed heart pump. "first patient" being the operative words.

In reply to: dreamer on Tuesday 02/08/05 04:10pm QUOTE Vcr keep saying they have strong patents and intellectual property hope it's real strong.Haven't come in here for a while. But have been holding and lurking. I believe that if VCR didn't think they could win this fight with Heartware, they would never have initiated the action they have taken. And on the other side of the coin. Just typical of American culture, Heartware has decided that attack is the best form of defence.

In reply to: quilton on Sunday 12/06/05 09:12am QUOTE The biggest boost to the index came from the 64.6 per cent rise in medical researcher Ventracor's market capitalisation after it announced US clinical trials of its implantable heart devices would start mid next year Seems strange to me, when from VCR's US and UK Investor Update – 1 June 2005 QUOTE US feasibility study will start mid 2005 – 10 implants • will open the door for revenues in 2006 through reimbursement • set the course for BTT and DT Pivotal trials.
